Autumn Term Topic Letter
Welcome to the Autumn Term in Class 2!
Miss Nesham will be teaching Monday to Wednesday and Mrs Zoeftig on a Thursday and Friday until half term, then Miss Clark will be back on Thursdays and Fridays.
Jan will be in every day as our class teaching assistant.
In Literacy we will be looking at traditional tales. We will be looking at poetry, research skills and writing information texts related to our History topic on Vikings. In the second half term we will write Viking stories. Continued skills of spelling, handwriting and punctuation will be taught throughout the term.
Vikings will link Art/DT, History and Geography and many aspects will be taught in Forest School which is in the first half term.
In Science we are learning about magnets and then other forces and light.
In Art and DT we will look at sculpture by looking at work of different sculptors and creating our own with a range of materials.
Mrs Heard will be teaching music every Monday. The children will be listening to Carnival of the Animals by Saint-Saens and working on their own animal compositions. They will also be learning to play the recorder.
In French we will be learning greetings, colours and numbers. In computing we will be learning to save and retrieve work using pictures and text and will make a presentation about e-safety using these skills.
In PE we will develop football and dance skills in the first half term and gymnastics and hockey in the second.
In Computing we will be learning how to be safe online and creating some graphic art.
Homework: for this term the priorities are reading and discussion of books at home and learning spellings weekly.
In the Spring and Summer we will also be learning multiplication tables.
